Hommage à Pierre Mercure
Parvis du Lac-aux-Castors
The City of Montréal, Salle Bourgie and the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne present Hommage à Pierre Mercure, an event marking both the centenary of the composer's birth and the 150th anniversary of Mount Royal Park.
As a prelude to the Festival Pierre-Mercure, to be held this winter at Salle Bourgie, audiences will hear Pierre Mercure's H₂O per Severino, performed by a quartet of NEM flutists: Marie-Hélène Breault, Geneviève Déraspe, Marilène Provencher-Leduc and Jeffrey Stonehouse. Musicologist Claudine Caron will introduce the work and the composer's artistic approach.
The event continues at the Beaver Lake Pavilion with a screening of the short film La forme des choses (NFB, 1965), directed by Jacques Giraldeau. Mercure wrote the score for this film, which documents the 1964 International Sculpture Symposium and features the sculptures in the clearing of Mount Royal Park.
