RÉSONANCE CROISÉE | L'ARSENALE / NEM (IT/QC)
Espace Orange - Édifice Wilder
On April 14, 2022, the NEM and the Italian ensemble L’arsenale are offering a concert that rolls out the red carpet for avant-garde Italian music, as part of Résonance croisée • Volet #2, presented by Le Vivier.
For this concert, the NEM, conducted by Lorraine Vaillancourt, presents Sinfonia da Camera by Alessandro Solbiati, a work that has a gradual intensity, offering “a path between darkness and light,” which is a personal and musical topos for Solbiati. Also on the program is Arras by Keiko Devaux, a work with a musical aesthetic that is comparable to the transparent, subtle and rarefied sound world of renowned composer Salvatore Sciarrino with whom Devaux studied at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Sienna.
Arras is nominated for a 2022 JUNO Award in the Classical Composition of the Year category.
L’arsenale, conducted by Filippo Perocco, plays works that exert an unsettling and irresistible fascination, some of which were composed especially for the ensemble, which consists of a singer, saxophone, electric guitar, accordion and piano.
A much-anticipated international event, Résonance croisée puts into perspective different approaches to music today and shows the deep-rooted dynamism of new music from Quebec, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany.

First and foremost, Résonance croisée is a new collaboration between European and Quebec artists chosen for their unique and avant-garde approaches to music creation. Audiences can expect to experience a week of concerts. This music needs to be “seen” for the sound to be fully appreciated; the body becomes the instrument and technology, the common thread. Several concerts will be immersive experiences, linking digital art and movement. (Traduction)

Arras
According to Keiko Devaux, “Canadian music is defined by the voices of those who live here; given the dynamic and plural identity of this country, [our music] is a tapestry that draws on the influence of many interconnected traditions and histories. These collective sonic memories that we have preserved, shared, broadcast and celebrated together are, for me, what defines the Canadian sound.” Her award-winning composition, Arras, is a reflection of her dual French and Japanese-Canadian heritage.
