Premiered in fall 2021 in Montreal and Quebec City, L’orangeraie is an opera by Zad Moultaka (music) and Larry Tremblay (libretto), directed by Pauline Vaillancourt.
Designed by visual artist Dominique Blain, this production brings together the musicians of the NEM and nine brilliant performers, under the musical direction of Lorraine Vaillancourt.
Where is your anger? I cannot hear it.
Vengeance is the name of your mourning.
— Excerpt from the libretto L’orangeraie
The story invites us to follow the journey and tragic fate of twin brothers Amed and Aziz, two children caught against their will in the machinery of war.
Between East and West, childhood, war, and heartbreaking choices, the echoes of a dark past are transcended in a quest for a peace once thought lost.
Enjoy the performance!
